The Hiking Club is joint program between Wilmette Packs 1 and Pack 8 where scouts enjoy the outdoors on monthly hikes. Miles hiked are tracked; at 25 miles scouts will receive a 25 mile patch and their hiking stick. Scouts will receive additional recognition as miles accumulate.
Who? All family members of Wilmette Pack 1 and Pack 8 scouts are eligible to join the hikes. Scouts and their parents will have their miles tracked and earn hiking sticks and patches/awards. Pack hikes are also open to new recruits or prospective families. However, the Hiking Club is not a “drop off” activity.
What? Nature hikes, typically ranging between 2 and 3 miles in length and lasting from 1 to 1.5 hours.
Where? local parks, forest preserves, woods and nature centers.
When? Typically the first Saturday of every month, at 10am sharp. Our schedule is published here, in advance providing time and location of all hikes.
Why? To promote appreciation of the outdoors and physical fitness, teach scouting skills, prepare cub scouts for the boy scouts, to increase pack unity and provide recruitment opportunities.
How? Each pack will provide a Pack Hiking Club Coordinator. The Pack Hiking Club Coordinators will serve as their pack’s overall representative and liaison for the program. In addition, each pack will provide Hike Leaders who will serve as guides for individual hikes. Hikers should review the Frequently Asked Questions section of this page.
Next Hike: October 6, 2018 at 10AM at The Grove (1421 Milwaukee Ave, Glenview, IL 60025)
